Fix a bug that could return a chunk of memory smaller than requested,
easily leading to a memory corruption, when the required memory alignment
passed to the allocator is 4.
Defining CMake variables from the command-line or from another CMake project,
such as `-DCMAKE_C_FLAGS= -DCMAKE_CXX_FLAGS=`, caused a link failure as ESP
CMake was unable to set its proper compilation flags.
Additional CMake compiler flags can now be provided by another project.

As ESP32C3 does not have support for REF_TICK source clock, it is now not
possible to select it anymore.
Auto cfg clock has been improved for all boards.
This function resets the spinlock given as a parameter after taking it
(when entering the critical section). This then results in a panic once
it tries to exit the same critical section.
* Closes https://github.com/espressif/esp-idf/issues/7725
As branches/jumps on Xtensa have a maximum range for the destination, it is
unsafe to refer to a label to another compilation unit in a branch/jump instruction.
The labels have been replaced by absolute addresses.
By using IOMUX instead of GPIO Matrix for UART, it is now possible
on ESP32 boards to use the UART as a wake up source even if it is
not used as a console.
For other boards where this issue was not present, using IOMUX has
the advantage to be faster than using GPIO matrix, so a highest
baudrate can be used
The user can now request the chip select to remain active after the current
transfer. In order to do so, he MUST acquire the bus first with `spi_device_acquire_bus()`
function, else, an error is returned.
eh_frame_parser is architecture independent, thus the files have
been rearchitectured. Some bugs have been fixed in the test.
A README file has also been added to eh_frame_parser host test
directory.
eh_frame_parser is now able to detect empty gaps in .eh_frame_hdr
table (missing DWARF information).
Fix a bug occuring when parsing backtraces originated from abort().
Fix build missing dependencies issue.
In I2C slave mode, clock source can now be changed, according to
the flags specified in `i2c_config_t` structure. Thus, ESP32-S2
can now act as an I2C slave, even with a 400KHz master clock.
Console example doesn't duplicate code in `console` component.
Linenoise has been improved: it now has a parametrized command line
length. It is now possible to paste data efficiently to the console.
Note: this can only be done if the cursor is at the end of the line.
Closes https://github.com/espressif/esp-idf/issues/7057
Add .eh_frame and .eh_frame_hdr sections to the binary (can be
enabled/disabled within menuconfig). These sections are parsed
when a panic occurs. Their DWARF instructions are decoded and
executed at runtime, to retrieve the whole backtrace. This
parser has been tested on both RISC-V and x86 architectures.
This feature needs esptool's merge adjacent ELF sections feature.
Add the possibility to have user bootloader components. This is performed
from an application/project, by creating bootloader components. To do so,
it is required to create a `bootloader_component` directory containing
the custom modules to be compiled with the bootloader.
Thanks to this, two solutions are available to override the bootloader now:
- Using hooks within a user bootloader component
- Using a user defined `main` bootloader component to totally override the
old implementation
Please check the two new examples in `examples/custom_bootloader`

Workaround libc can be moved to flash thanks to KConfig macros.
However, the following functions: `itoa`, `memcmp`, `memcpy`, `memset`, `strcat`, `strcmp`, and `strlen` are always kept it in IRAM.
It is now possible to call `i2c_master_cmd_begin()` on the same
`i2c_cmd_handle_t` parameter. Thus, no extra allocation will be performed.
Moreover, as commands contains pointers to data, these can be modified
between two calls to `i2c_master_cmd_begin()`. This becomes very handy
for framebuffers.
Only a single command will be allocated now when a read or write is
prepared in the command list. The size of a command's buffer is not
limited to 255 bytes anymore.
Application can now provide a buffer in order to allocate commands link.
Fixed few unclear details in the documentation.
Added wrappers to simplify I2C transfers.
Closes https://github.com/espressif/esp-idf/issues/5108
When not compiling bootloader, a spinlock will be used for reading or writing
I2C internal devices/registers.
When compiling for bootloader, no need to use any lock.
Core dump integrity check can now be parametrized through menuconfig.
It can be performed on boot or ignored. When core dump is activated
in the menuconfig, the user can still check the core dump at any time
with the function `esp_core_dump_image_check()`.
Fix a bug where `esp_core_dump_image_get()` was not accessible
when core dump was disabled.
Closes https://github.com/espressif/esp-idf/issues/6620
It is now possible to have any alignment restriction on rodata in the user
applicaiton. It will not affect the first section which must be aligned
on a 16-byte bound.
Closes https://github.com/espressif/esp-idf/issues/6719
By unchecking "Place panic handler code in IRAM" in the menuconfig,
the panic handlers will be placed in flash. Of course, flash cache must
be activated when entering panic handlers.
When `DIS_USB_JTAG` eFuse is NOT burned (`False`), it is not possible
to set pins 18 and 19 as GPIOs. This commit solves this by manually
disabling USB JTAG when using pins 18 or 19.
The functions shall use `gpio_hal_iomux_func_sel` instead of
`PIN_FUNC_SELELECT`.
rodata dummy section has now the same alignment as flash text section,
and at least the same size. For these reasons, the cache will map
correctly the following rodata section.
VDD_SDIO power domain can now be configured for light sleep
by the application. It is now possible to keep the power domain
ON during light sleep, keeping the GPIOs connected to it powered.
The power domain will, by default be:
- Kept ON if CONFIG_ESP_SYSTEM_PD_FLASH is not set
- Turned OFF if not set
The application can still force it to be ON by calling
`esp_sleep_pd_config(ESP_PD_DOMAIN_VDDSDIO, ESP_PD_OPTION_ON);`
Add support to tasks stacks in RTC DRAM. Before this fix, any stack
in RTC DRAM would have been considered as corrupted, whichi is not
the case.
Fix a bug related to wrong parameters passed to esp_core_dump_get_stack.
Fix a bug reading fake stack memory, triggering a memory violation.

NOP instructions have been added in order to prevent the code
from executing code it shouldn't execute. This is due to a delay
between the moment an interrupt is requested and the moment it
is fired. It only happens on RISC-V SoC.
This commit includes the refactoring of the core dump feature. Thanks to
this refactoring, it is easier to integrate the support of RISC-V
architecture for this feature.
Fixes ESP-1758
SoC level exceptions such as watchdog timer and cache errors are now supported.
Such exceptions now triggers a panic, giving more information about how
and when it happened.
Changed optional value parameter 'encrypted' to a named parameter
called 'ALWAYS_PLAINTEXT'. This flag can be passed to:
- esptool_py_flash_target
- esptool_py_flash_target_image
Fix wrong identation.
Core dump can now be written in plain text if the partition itself is encrypted.
So it is important to modify the partition table if the user wants an encrypted
core dump partition as by default, it is not.
Added some functions in core_dump_port.c to abstract the checksum implementation
from core_dump_flash.c file.
Closes IDF-458
The coredump is now encrypted when saved on an encrypted flash.
The cache used for saving the file onto the flash is bigger,
making the proccess more efficient.
Relates to IDF-458
